Concepts for Effective Listening
Rev. Terri Hord Owens – Imagine with Me: Liz Theoharris and the Poor People’s Campaign
“Do you know what I want? I want justice—oceans of it. I want fairness – rivers of it. That’s what I want. That’s all I want.” – Amos 5:24
The Social Justice Seekers at North Oak Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) are committed to a program of education and study, open discussion, and engagement with one another and with persons who may be treated unjustly because of who they are. We are pursuing a program to inform and lend credibility to actions we undertake on behalf of marginalized communities.
As outlined in NOCC’s vision statement, North Oak Christian Church is committed to “becoming an open and affirming church.” And “We intentionally and proactively engage with marginalized communities to be with them where they are.” As Seekers, we differ in our understanding of and experience with issues of social justice. And while the specific issues that ignite our personal passions may vary, each of us is moved to join in an ongoing process of dismantling systemic injustice wherever we encounter it. We come together to demonstrate our love for our neighbors by taking action to reverse injustice based upon race, economic status, sexual orientation or identity, mental or physical impairment, religion, and country of origin.
We welcome all who wish to join with us. For more information, or to inquire about how you can be a part of this effort, email us by clicking .
